What is Scoliosis?
Scoliosis is an abnormal curve in your spine. A healthy spine has a natural curve from front to back, but if your spine curves sideways or twists, you may have scoliosis. Scoliosis Treatment can have a huge impact on an individual’s quality of life.
What Causes Scoliosis?
Spinal subluxation occurs when one of the bones of your spine moves out of position, putting pressure on your nerves. This can take place as early as childbirth as a baby emerges from the birth canal and can be a major factor in causing abnormal curves in the spine. However, early detection is key and may help to prevent or reduce the severity of the case.
Why Do We Check for Scoliosis in Children?
Scoliosis occurs most often in girls between the ages of 8 and 18, but it has been found in boys as well. It is easiest to correct, if it is diagnosed early.
A recent chiropractic study suggests that chiropractic adjustments can reduce abnormal spinal curve in children and teenagers. In fact, according to the study children under the age of 10 had 3 times better correction after chiropractic treatment than children older than age ten. The earlier a child receives chiropractic adjustments, the greater the chance that chiropractor services can make a marked correction.
Traditional medical treatments for scoliosis are very invasive, and the results have not been proven beneficial for the patient. In fact, traditional medicine does not offer any treatment for a scoliosis curve of less then 20 degrees.
