5 Tips to Avoid Lower Back Pain
- Change positions, often. Take a moment to shift your weight. If you’re standing in a stationary position, ask if you can bring a stool in to rest one foot on it and then shift your weight throughout the day.
- Use shoe insoles or an anti-fatigue mat. These reduce the pressure that gravity places on your body and will keep your blood flowing.
- Avoid extreme movements such as twisting your body while holding heavy objects. This can cause leg and back pain. If you must move a heavy item, lift with your legs, not your back.
- Wear flats. High-heeled shoes put strain on your lower back, and if you’re standing for long periods of time, they throw off your posture which often results in lower back pain.
- Use correct posture. It might feel awkward, at first, but standing up straight with your shoulders back and your body properly aligned can make a big difference in the pressure on your lower back, reducing the need for lower back pain treatment.
